MUNSEY'S MISSION was started in 2013 by Peggy Munsey, in Philomath, Oregon.

Peggy was born and raised on Kodiak Island, AK in a remote bay named Uyak.  She grew up with 5 older siblings and her 2 parents.  Her dad instilled in all the kids a great love of all animals and respect for wildlife since they were there first.

Peggy grew up to get a B.S. in Zoology at Oregon State, then a nursing degree at the local community college. She got married, had 2 children and worked as a nurse for 12 years in Oregon, before moving on from nursing to start her own dog boarding kennel at the property her and her husband owned.

After suffering through a divorce in 2012, she found a new motivation for helping animals and started her sanctuary.  The sanctuary became home to 16 New Zealand female rabbits- brought to Peggy by the Beagle Freedom Project from a research lab in CA.  Peggy had her hands full with caring for them, along with the boarding kennel dogs and her two children, so no further animals were taken in by the sanctuary at that point.

Needing a change, Peggy sold her place and moved to New Mexico in 2021.  After buying some property and having her dream Dome Home built, she began thinking about how to restart the sanctuary and set out to make it her life's primary focus.  It's now the summer of 2024.
